window

my little window is closed for good

I look out from the one that is still intact

I set my elbows on its ledge

I peep through the glass not clean today

it has some dust from yesterday’s storm

my chin resting on my open palms

my eyes focused on horizon need to know

if it is far or at just an arm’s length

stars from the grey sky loom large

that urgent desire to ask you rise in me

if the stars in your sky too are bright as here?

do they twinkle as they do in mine

right now at this moment when

I am standing here holding you close to me

your smile falling all over my being

I search for your eyes to check my hair

and then I see them; the moonbeams

peeping through my window

all of those walk inside to sit on the sill

my elbows have moved aside

I know now my moon is here tonight…

passion

passion

they put the chisel on a block of wood

cut it shape it put intricate designs

they make a dead piece of timber come alive

they dig the earth to move it deeper like our interiors

sow some seeds from the yesteryear’s crops

sprinkle water or wait for rains to let it blossom into life

they shout at the top of their voices in haste

for they know it has to be now or never

when the river wades through shallow pitches

they have to make her head rest at their pillow

for they know if she ran faster they will fail

they move the moon in skies above their heads

from west to east every night from crescent to full

for they know if they did not their lunula will turn paler

they have to fill dreams with lovemaking of their souls

for this universe stands still unless passion is ignited.

Prayer

Prayer

as this dusk appeared on my window
I picked up my pen filled it with ink
I needed to write a prayer with my heart in it
I ordered my fingers to write his name
they wrote all I wanted to every single word
etched on my heart echoing in my soul
I asked my feet to walk that extra mile
for I know they can if they wish to
I ordered my arms to remain warm
for I know they will not tire till I let them
I ordered my eyes to smile with my lips
for I know they can as they shed tears in love
I ordered my bosom to be soft when they meet thine
I know them from the day I became a woman
for my heart beats inside from the day
I was ordered to be by him……

we move

we move

I move forward one inch with

every passing day

in this maze of life created out of

bricks, mortar, stones, rocks

river that flowed carrying all I ever had

it’s waters enriched with desires to be reborn

each new day dawns with an added flavour

every dusk falls languishly in my lap

I pick these up in my cupped hands

henna that had faded long ago

adornments it made were gone

blown with the winds of despair

traced a few fine lines yesterday

as I reached closer to the edge

and looked down with longing

mesmerized by its suicidal charm

my smile called out aloud

“drink my poison for you may not live”

turned sweeter as you pulled me closer to you

O! dear life.. your embrace is tighter today

than yesterday

more so than the day before

O! love you are deeper today

than you were yesterday

more so than day before…

tide

tide.

when this tide in my heart swells

flowers bloom fragrance fills the cocoon

that we enter on our call

from above from within

when the moon turns full

I look into your eyes to find me

sitting upright waiting since ages

waiting to be complete

you fill me with your presence

crevices are glued with your warmth

I choose to be the one who never was

who never will be away from your form

this continuity of being with you

is my treasure for a lifetime.

let me be me

let me be me

let me do this one more time

let me keep your voice on my lips

let me hold it on my tongue

let me call you by your name

let me say it a thousand times

let me tell you all your tales

let me say what I need to say

let me wish for moon and stars

let me dive with nothing on

let me climb those steep hills

let me be me with you….
