Two of us

An evening we share with two cups of tea

I cry on your shoulder and you embrace me

we smile and we laugh till the night arrives

you walk me home while all is dark

I wait by the window to look for my moon

which I know is on his way back home

you find solace in your own warm world

we restore order in each other’s lives

we keep a tab on each other’s ways

you talk me out of life’s intoxications

I try not to be in your success’s way

we share jokes and we hide tears

yet I know when you smirk

and you know when I sob…

there are days when we intend to stay away

I do not reach out and you remain aloof

perpetuated silence spreads between us

then laughter springs back with a single gesture

you beckon me or I beckon you

does it matter who takes the first cue?

We meet midway and we face each other

our eyes meet, our hearts rejoice

I lean on your shoulder and you roar with laughter

we splash and we play and we have fun

in this pool of emotions we share with each other

we are in love beyond lovemaking

We are friends, the tow of us

a woman and a man

the two of us!
